[vz-users] volkszaehler.org v0.2 released

Hi there,

volkszaehler.org is an Open Source Smart Meter with focus on privacy - 
you remain the master of your data.
You can find version 0.2 of volkszaehler.org in the usual place on github [0].

While version 0.1 was no more than a proof of concept this is the first real 
release of the software.


Everyone who simply wants a somewhat pain-free installation of 
volkszaehler.org should use this version. Those of you who are interested
in new features and would like to use their own modifications and 
extensions are encouraged to go on using the current git repository.

Version 0.2 will not see any feature updates any more, there might be 
bug-fixes if necessary, though.


We've started working on version 0.3 already. The main focus for the next 
version will be an overhaul of the web frontend, particularly the ui concept.
The other thing on our list is the support of SML and OBIS based meters. 
The puzzle pieces (hardware [3], software for linux and ATmega [4]) are
available already - the only thing left to do is to glue them together and test...

We'd also like to establish some kind of a test and staging procedure. 
While it's always a bit tricky to find things to do for people who would like to
contribute to the project but don't feel they have enough experience in
coding, this should be easy for anyone to do. The idea is to have a small 
team of people who test the current beta release (for which we have some 
"git auto-pull" setup) and make sure it passes the standard test cases 
before it gets deployed to our demo site [1]. Speaking of standard test
cases: yes, we'll need to add some more to our list [2] ;-)


Alright - plenty of words already. The most important words coming up here:
a very big THANK YOU to Steffen who seems to have been working 
continuously since the first time we've met on last year's SIGINT on the
project. Always been a pleasure to understand your latest ideas :-)

Thanks also to everyone else who contributed in which ever way - be it in
our wiki, in discussions on our mailing list or on our IRC channel, 
comment-based conversations in our bug tracker [5], spontaneous 
on-train-sessions, ...
